Defeat for Boehner and gain for Obama Administration

The U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of  257 to 167,  including 75 Republicans, passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The House voted on a bill that didn't include any conditions to block President Barack Obama's immigration executive order to stay the deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants.

Jim Boehner, the House Speaker had no choice but to bring to the floor a vote that didn't include any conditions on the President's immigration measure after his own Republican colleagues last week failed to vote for a three week funding bill for the department of Homeland Security.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) issued the following statement: “The collapse of the reckless Republican shutdown strategy is complete. These are dangerous times that require all hands on deck without distraction. The passage of legislation to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security is a critical step toward keeping us safe. Leader Pelosi should be applauded for her resolute leadership in getting this done. We must get back to doing the business of the American people.”
